September Education Meeting / Family & Connections Support Groups

  • 605 Laureen Wallace Blvd RM 222 Tuscaloosa, Alabama United States (map)

In recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, NAMI Tuscaloosa is hosting a special two-part education series focused on suicide prevention, awareness, connection, and hope.

Monday, September 14 at 6:00 PM
Our featured speaker will be Cheryl Dodson, who became involved with the Alabama Suicide Prevention and Resources Coalition (ASPARC) after losing a friend to suicide more than 10 years ago. Cheryl will share her personal story, the impact of suicide loss, and how that experience shaped her advocacy and connection to suicide prevention efforts.

Monday, September 21 at 6:00 PM
Our featured speaker will be Meesha Emmett, Alabama Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Alabama Chapter, presenting Talk Saves Lives. This educational program provides an introduction to suicide prevention, including what current research tells us about suicide, risk and protective factors, warning signs, and strategies that can help prevent suicide.

Both meetings will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 605 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd N, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.

Free and open to the public. All are welcome.

You do not have to attend Part 1 in order to attend Part 2. Each evening stands on its own, and community members are welcome to attend either or both.
